A potential place to spend New Year, suggested by Carol, is a place in France called Snowden house. It's located in the Somme, about 1 1/2 hours from Calais It sleeps up to 14 people (and I guess a few more hardened ex-Venture Scouts on thermarests?) and is only £14 per person per night. I've spoken to the owner and it's currently available for New Year (I'm thinking about going out on the 29th or 30th Dec, coming back on the 2nd). I suppose the best way to get there would be to hire a minibus (about £30 per person) and take the Euro tunnel (about £15 per person). Obviously, we'd need to add food, drink and entertainment to that.

I'm still looking at places in the UK, but they are working out at around £200 per person just for the accommodation, which I suspect will be too much for most people.
